Lutheridge is the place to be for Faith Alive

Lutheridge+Lutherock Ministries is the ministry of our synod which we highlight in February. Executive Director Keith Johnson offers the following glimpse of one of LLMI’s faith-shaping programs.

Over 80 confirmands from across the south journeyed up the mountain to Lutheridge study the New Testament as part of the Faith Alive campfirmation program during the weekend of November 11-13. One young man, Sam, had this to say about his experience, “It has been a lot of fun, but there were serious moments too. The counselors are the best. I met my best friend last year at Lutheridge. I learned about the four Gospels and how the Bible came together. Lutheridge is the place to be!”

Opportunity House - "a church without walls"

One of the two ministry emphases highlighted in our synod is Mission Development in NC. The Rev. Ernie Hinojosa, Director for Evangelical Mission in the North Carolina Synod, gives us a glimpse of an exciting new ministry in Kannapolis. Taking a look at ELCA's Region 9

One of the two ministry emphases highlighted in our synod is that of the ELCA’s Region 9. The Rev. Harvey Huntley, Jr., pictured here in his NC Synod office, is the region’s coordinator. He offers an overview of the region's ministry and describes a current collaboration of Region 9 with the Southeastern Jurisdiction of the United Methodist Church in mission and ministry with Native American peoples in our region.

Bishop Moyo of Zimbabwe visits synod

Bishop Ambrose Moyo, retired Bishop of the Lutheran Church in Zimbabwe and former head of the Lutheran Communion of Southern Africa, came to the US through the invitation of ELCA Global Mission. He is pictured here with NC Synod Bishop Leonard Bolick making a Skype call to the Ecumenical Committee during a visit on December 8.

Joplin Express

On May 22, 2011 at approximately 6:15 pm a devastating EF5 tornado struck Joplin, Missouri. The tornado reached a maximum width in excess of 1 mile with winds over 200 mph destroying over 2000 buildings, killing 162 and injuring over 990. With this tragedy in the news and much talk about the destruction and the lives affected, an idea was born. Calvary Lutheran Church in Concord, NC, partners with Good360©, an organization that partners groups with retail merchants to obtain their returned and closeout items at no cost.

AME Zion-ELCA Members Continue Conversation at Summit

Members of two Christian denominations, the African Methodist Episcopal Zion (AMEZ) church and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), got to know one another better during a Summit Weekend, held September 16-17 in Salisbury. The weekend began with a covenant service Friday evening at St. John’s Lutheran Church with Bishop George W.C. Walker Sr., the AMEZ’s senior bishop, as preacher, and Bishop Mark S. Hanson, the ELCA’s presiding bishop as celebrant. The summit continued at Hood Seminary on Saturday.
